“Conscience is a judgment of reason whereby the human person recognizes the moral quality of a concrete act . . . . Every person] is obliged to follow faithfully what he [or she] knows to be just and right” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 17780).
As Election Day draws near, we as Catholic Americans are faced with a very important decision, one that requires us to exercise our free will in partnership with one of our greatest tools—our conscience! Join us for what is sure to be a fruitful and enlightening discussion on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) document, Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, presented by Thom Shellabarger, on Saturday, October 27 at 10am in the West Conference Room. Formerly a Policy Advisor at the USCCB, Thom was a key contributor to the development of Faithful Citizenship. He has spent more than 40 years advocating on issues from housing and community development, to minimum wage, employment, and civil rights with the Congress and the Administration. We look forward to having him visit our parish, providing us with valuable tools, as we explore our options for the future of our country.
