The Sacrifice of Abraham
On Saturday, March 3 at 10:30am in the North Conference Room, Deacon Augustine Marie Reisenauer, OP will speak to us on "The Sacrifice of Abraham."
Genesis 22 presents the moving saga of Abraham’s journey in obedience to sacrifice his most precious treasure, his only beloved son of the promise, Isaac. With the contributions of commentators‐‐ rabbinic and patristic, medieval and modern ‐‐ this presentation gradually walks along with our father in faith to investigate the meaning of struggle and sacrifice, the stance of readiness and obedience, and the agony and the ecstasy of striving to prefer nothing to the love of God. The lesson of Abraham instructs us how God not only graciously champions in man but also generously outcompetes man through the sacrifice of his own only beloved Son. As with Abraham, despite the difficulties, God encourages us along the road of faithful discipleship.
Deacon Augustine, a seminarian at the Dominican House of Studies, is an active deacon and minister at St. Matthew's. He will be ordained to the priesthood in May 2012.
Homemade coffee cake will be provided.
