James Anthony Garcia, a St. Matthew’s parishioner, will be ordained to the Permanent Diaconate by Donald Cardinal Wuerl at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 9:30 am. James and his wife, Christine, celebrated their wedding at the Cathedral in 2004. Originally from Seattle, Washington, James – along with his twin brother, Jon – grew up in the Diocese of Orange in California. James moved to Washington, D.C. after graduating from the University of California, Berkeley and from the Yale Law School. He works as a senior trial attorney at the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Since joining St. Matthew’s in 1999, James has been active in a number of liturgical ministries and served as secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council. Following ordination, James will assist at his first Mass as a deacon here at the Cathedral on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 10am. All are welcome to the Mass and the reception following in the Great Hall of the Rectory. James is especially grateful to the parishioners of St. Matthew’s for their prayers and support, particularly during his five years of diaconate formation. He asks that you continue to pray him and for an increase in vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and religious life, that the Church may be equipped for every good
