Please join St. Matthew's Cathedral in the Help the Homeless Walk-a-Thon on Saturday, November 22, 2008! All donations raised by members of the St. Matthew's Cathedral team will benefit Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington. The St. Matthew's 2008 team is organized by St. Matthew's Cathedral Young Adults (SMYA) and is open to all parishioners and friends of St. Matthew's Cathedral. That total includes people who are living on the streets, staying in shelters, or living in transitional housing. More than 45 percent are families and about one-quarter are children. While "street homelessness" is the image commonly presented to portray homelessness, less than 13 percent of the homeless people in the region regularly live on the streets. More than one quarter of the region's homeless single adults are employed.
