The life of Jean Fuller, a member of our parish community who spent so much time in, around, and on the steps of the Cathedral for over 20 years, will be celebrated at a Funeral Mass (bilingual in English and Spanish) in the Cathedral on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 2pm. All are welcome to the Mass, to be celebrated by Msgr. Jameson with Fr. Benson as homilist. Jean died on January 8, 2024 at Georgetown Hospital, where she had been cared for since late December.
We are grateful
St. Matthew's clergy and staff are grateful for this opportunity to say goodbye and to commend Jean's soul to the Lord, from the place that became her home. Her love of God, and of the Cathedral, were as striking as her presence among us. She is missed and mourned by many.
Thank you to the many people who showed kindness and generosity to Jean over the years. A parishioner shared the following message on Jean's passing:
"The community and staff of the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle are mourning the loss of their long time “homeless” resident – Jeanne. She was a fixture of the Cathedral and slept overnight on the front steps of the Cathedral for umpteen years. She’d often roam the streets of Dupont Circle and pop into stores, like Blue Mercury, to buy some items to freshen up her makeup. She was very recognizable – hair wrapped up, always in dresses, the makeup applied just so…and wore flip flops. She was 81 years old. Many residents in and around the Dupont/Logan knew her to see…! Rest in Peace, Jeanne."
Todos son bienvenidos a la Misa bilingüe
La vida de Jean Fuller, un miembro de nuestra comunidad parroquial que pasó tanto tiempo en, alrededor y en los escalones de la Catedral durante más de 20 años, se celebrará en una Misa de Exequias (bilingüe en inglés y español) en la Catedral el martes 5 de marzo 2024 a las 2pm. Todos son bienvenidos a la Misa, que será celebrada por Mons. Jameson con el P. Benson como homilista. Jean murió el 8 de enero de 2024 en el Hospital de Georgetown, donde fue atendida a partir de finales de diciembre.
Estamos agradecidos
El clero y el personal de San Mateo están agradecidos por esta oportunidad de despedirse y encomendar el alma de Jean al Señor, desde el lugar que se convirtió en su hogar. Su amor por Dios y por la Catedral era tan asombroso como su presencia entre nosotros. Muchos la extrañan y la lloran.
Gracias a los muchos feligreses y amigos que mostraron a Jean amabilidad y generosidad a lo largo de los años. Un feligrés compartió el siguiente mensaje sobre el fallecimiento de Jean:
"La comunidad y el personal de la Catedral de San Mateo Apóstol están de luto por la pérdida de su residente "sin hogar" desde hace mucho tiempo: Jeanne. Era un elemento fijo de la Catedral y durmió todas las noches en los escalones delanteros de la Catedral durante innumerables años. A menudo deambulaba por las calles de Dupont Circle y entraba en tiendas, como Blue Mercury, para comprar algunos artículos para refrescar su maquillaje. Era muy reconocible: el pelo recogido, siempre con vestidos, el maquillaje aplicado tan... y usaba chanclas. Tenía 81 años. ¡Muchos residentes en y alrededor de Dupont/Logan la conocían para ver...! Descansa en paz, Jeanne."
