Social Justice Retreat

Renewing Community

St. Matthew's Social Justice Committee invites you to a day retreat at the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 11am to 4pm.

Retreat Leaders

The retreat, open to all, will be led by Fr. John Benson, Parochial Vicar, Ricardo Tobar, Coordinator for Social Justice. In addition to morning readings and group discussion, there will be an afternoon talk by Deacon Isaac Sagastume.

Deacon Isaac is originally from Costa Rica, via New Jersey. He spent 3 years in mission in Arizona and is passionate about Evangelization and works of Charity. He is assigned as a transitional deacon serving the Cathedral parish for the 2023-2024 school year. This will be a wonderful opportunity to hear from someone with a passion for Social Justice who will be a part of the Cathedral family going forward.

Agenda

The day will include time for individual and group reflection. We also will celebrate some of the transformative moments in our parish’s outreach ministries, share our motivations and our dreams for an even more robust and prophetic presence of the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in the life of our city and nation.

A light lunch will be served. Mass will be celebrated at 4pm (attendance is optional) to close out the retreat. A $5 per person donation is requested to help cover costs.

Social Justice Retreat flier

St. Matthew's Care for Creation Green Team invites you to celebrate the Season of Creation 2022 (September 1 - October 4, 2023) via Zoom, touching on all Seven Laudato Si’ Goals.

Season of Creation 2023 Theme: Let Justice and Peace Flow

Prophet Amos cries out: “But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” (Amos 5: 24) and so we are called to join the river of justice and peace, to take up climate and ecological justice, and to speak out with and for communities most impacted by climate injustice and the loss of biodiversity.

As the people of God, we must work together on behalf of all Creation, as part of that mighty river of peace and justice.
