Paddling on the Anacostia River

The St. Matthew’s Creation Care Green Team invites you to an evening of paddling on the beautiful Anacostia River, from 5 to 7pm on Saturday, September 9, 2023 - the 2nd annual Green Team River Tour! A river guide from the Anacostia Watershed Society (AWS) will lead us on a scenic educational tour.

The Anacostia has changed dramatically over the last 400 years – from a place of quiet natural abundance and American Indian settlements to a colonial seaport and bustling corridor in the nation’s capital. Exploring the Anacostia River by paddling offers a way to get to know the river and its resources.

The event is free but consider making an optional donation to support AWS and to cover some of the cost (details on the registration webpage).

Season of Creation 2023 Theme: Let Justice and Peace Flow

Prophet Amos cries out: “But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” (Amos 5: 24) and so we are called to join the river of justice and peace, to take up climate and ecological justice, and to speak out with and for communities most impacted by climate injustice and the loss of biodiversity. 

As the people of God, we must work together on behalf of all Creation, as part of that mighty river of peace and justice.
