9 September, 12:00 P.M. (Noon) – 1:00 P.M. Season of Creation Film Luncheon – Big Oil's Last Lifeline: Part 1 - Houston, Texas, 2022
Film Screening & Discussion

As we follow the toxic trail of the petrochemical industry, we hear from some of the bravest advocates who currently reside in Houston, Texas that are being exposed to these petrochemical toxins putting them at risk of losing their lives all for the monetary greed and profit of the oil, gas, coal, and petrochemical industries. "Big Oil's Last Lifeline" is a three-part documentary series sounding the alarm on the petrochemical industry’s impact on Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities. There are environmental and climate injustices happening all over the planet, but particularly along the Gulf Coast of the Mississippi River and the Ohio River Valley. These injustices have strategically targeted low-income communities where the majority of black and brown U.S. citizens call home. In this context remarkable: Dr. Friederike Otto: “In 2017, hurricane Harvey brought devastating rains & the reality of climate change to Houston & showed me that silence in the face of such events is really not an option anymore for scientists. I wrote my science story of Harvey in ANGRY WEATHER. Heat waves, Floods, Storms, and The New Science of Climate Change. Greystone Books: 2020.”
